Throughout this module, you learned quite a few new terms and concepts related to “academic writing” and “academic discourse.” Using what you learned, explain what characteristics of academic discourse and writing you noticed in our readings on civic engagement and academic research/higher education. Provide one or two examples from the readings to support your points. What differences did you notice between the readings? Similarities?
Which reading did you find the most interesting? Why? What did you learn that you didn’t know before?
After you write an original response to this prompt, post a response to another student’s post. Remember to check back often if one of your peers has asked you a question requiring an answer.
Your original post needs to be at least 150-200 words. Your claims should be supported by evidence from the texts in the form of paraphrases and quotes, followed by an in-text citation. (You do not need works cited for the discussions, just the in-text citation).
In order to get credit for your response to another post, your answer must be at least 50 words long and make a substantial contribution to the conversation that the original poster started. Don’t just say “great point!” or “I totally agree!” Add to their point, ask questions, offer a different perspective.
Your post must be coherent, use complete sentences, and be carefully proofread for spelling and grammar.
