Today I thought I would give you a chance to practice writing a first paragraph of an important letter.
The facts of the scenario are:You are a President of a major state university.
Students are upset that the COVID-19 virus means they must do school online.
You have received no direction from your superiors about the status of the university funding due to the current state of affairs.
Students are demanding a refund of tuition due to online courses being cheaper and they can not use university facilities.
You have some major expenditures that must be made.  The bank is trying to help but they can’t make absolute promises.
The state doesn’t know what will happen to your funding for the upcoming school year due to the COVID-19 virus.
Think about the letter that you will write to students about the Fall 2020 semester. A preliminary estimate of the increase in tuition is approximately $200 per semester hour if  the states funding is not made at all.  Keep a copy of this for the duration of this exercise.
