Angelica Swanson Sep 6, 2021Sep 6 at 12:16pmManage Discussion EntryI found this section of ethics very educational and of great value. I believe that being committed to the ethical values of the profession will help best serve the client and helpt the professional avoid legal issues.
As it was mentioned, there are two forms of ethical reasoning (intuitive and critical-evaluative) both are important and will influence the conclusions and decisions to be taken. For this reason I would have to agree that one will find it very helpful to have an insight into one’s own values and motivation for entering the mental health field and also from assessing the reasons for choosing this profession. This section encourages me to not allow my past to influence my views but to look at situations from a professional, sensitive and fair perspective.Darnise Thompson TuesdaySep 7 at 9:50pmManage Discussion EntryWhen making ethical decisions it is best to have studied up on ethics and integrate the ethical values of the professions. Many decisions are made within moments and will not allow the time to actually sit back and think or even consult with others their thoughts on the matter. Also learning of the lack of ethical sensitivity stems from beliefs, cultural norms, social or political pressures. To think that someone would think that having sex with clients was a form of therapy? Drapetomania? Wow. I am glad that now you must justify ethical decisions based on FACTS.

This what I found interesting in this Reading.
By aiming higher to understand contents of the code and reasons. Generates a gain both ethically and legally.
Its also range the good in the professional, who almost want to do the right thing and benefit the clients. Then on the other hands it also ignores the resources ,ego, strength and sociocultural context in which clients problems have arisen. This can increase a change unto a negative outcome. Its all become a sacrifice your time, life and value to help people that need help. Ethics has a positive and can be a negative impact as -well. All depends how you address the situation.
Example a law can be prohibit in one state and allowed in another. Even when all sates and provinces have laws governing the same issuse ,such as those relating child abuse in the exact wording. The law result in varying interpertation in differnt juridications.
Defying the law and or code is an act of civil disobedience and is a serious matter. No one enters mental health practice as a blank . All professional have values and beliefs.Read Chapter one of “Ethics in Counseling
