Rogel Pagaduan Aug 30, 2021Aug 30 at 9:53amManage Discussion EntryI found most interesting is ignorance of ethical standards. Regardless of our status in life we all have ethical values. Contrastingly, we do not know it all. Sometimes it is contingent on situations. What is acceptable practice in one culture may not be acceptable in another culture. Sometimes there are situations that we faced ethical dilemma. That is your personal or professional values conflict with the desire of your client.
Regardless how much time we spent in school studying ethics, it does not mean we will be fully equipped with the ethical standards required to practice our profession. We learn as we progress in our career.Angelica Swanson Aug 29, 2021Aug 29 at 11:13pmManage Discussion EntryThe part of the reading that impacted me the most is being reminded of how the client when being sexually exploited can end up committing suicide. It is saddening to think that sexual misconduct can happen to the most vulnerable and in a setting where the professional was there to help. It is understandable that the client would lose hope, find himself or herself very distressed and no longer want to seek help. I hope that they find the strength and courage to talk to someone else and report the case.

I know we are all human, but I feel as though they have a job to uphold to. I don’t think they are there to act as the “one and all”, meaning they are judge and juror if the individual doesn’t do as told. Too many times I have seen people in a position of being charge abuse it. I would think that people that are coming for counseling are looking to be healed. They are not there to be told if you don’t do this, I won’t write you up a good report. I think people are very weary of folks because of how people are being treated. I think we need to understand that professionals are there a assist and provide resources towards recovery. I’m interested in understanding what the role of a ‘Case Manager” is. Excited about learning more. Read Chapter one of “Ethics in Counseling
