Energy and the Human Body

At every moment, of every day, of every year, your body is consuming energy.
Even when you are sleeping your body is converting chemical energy into electrical energy in
order to keep your heart beating and lungs breathing. In fact, you can think of your body as a
walking power plant. Our bodies were doing this before dams and nuclear reactors. In this lab, we
will calculate the energy expended during certain activities and see if these values correspond to
the amount of calories that health websites say you should be burning for that activity. Not to ruin

science! The goal is: Can we explain why?
Supplies:
1. Scale
2. Timer
3. Ruler
