Both Phillis Wheatley and William Cullen Bryant respond to various works of visual art in their poetry (Wheatley’s poem addressed to S.M. and Bryant’s poem addressed to Thomas Cole). Other writers and artists have long found connections between literature and other art forms. Find a particular piece of visual art, architecture, or music (without lyrics) that you feel resembles either the style or tone of any of the authors you have read thus far in the course or any of the themes expressed throughout. For example, Bryant sees in Cole’s expansive landscapes a metaphor for the freedom experienced in America. Be specific in your response; compare one particular work of art to one particular author or piece of literature.
