I want you to make a critical argument about character, plot, writing style, and/or etc.
I want you to make a critical argument about character,
plot, writing style, and/or etc. and how they are used.
This is a very self-directed research essay. You can
compare/contrast, you can write a critical examination of the works in
question, you can discuss and agree/dissent with/from scholarly perspectives on
the works in question.
Finally, I want you to include and discuss one outside piece
of commentary or scholarship on the literature you’re discussing. This
means a little bit of research. Looking up articles through the library
database is a good idea. All the authors we’ve covered have TONS of
critical and scholarly material published about them. However, I don’t
want this to become center stage.
The last thing I want is for you to
just quote a bunch of “experts.” I want you to ENGAGE with one
outside “expert” commentator. Factor it into your
argument. Do you agree with what this person said about the work?
Why or why not? If so, to what extent? Using another’s perspective
is to enrich your own argument, not replace it.
