Negotiation Paper 1
In both cases, the union contract has (or is about to expire), and a negotiation for a new contract is expected. The first case involves an auto parts manufacturer, and you will be composing a bargaining plan for the management team (see Negotiation Scenario One). The second case involves a school district, and you will be creating a bargaining plan for the union representing teachers (see Negotiation Scenario Two).In truth, you are writing two paper (i.e., two distinct, unrelated documents), and attached them together into one file that you will upload. For each bargaining plan, you should address the following:1) What are your negotiation priorities? Make sure it is clear what is most important, somewhat important, less important, etc. Your priorities should be based on the facts of the case. 2) What is the absolute minimum you are willing to accept (i.e., your resistance points)? How are these related to your BATNA? 3) What are your targets (i.e., stretch goals)? This is the best that you think you can possibly get from the other side. 4) For both Question 2 and Question 2 (above), contract costing (a term from Chapter 7) should be considered.5) What specific strategies will you use to pursue your distributive (win-lose) negotiation goals? Include some specific techniques from the negotiation readings AND chapter 7.6) What are some goals that can be achieved using integrative (win-win) negotiation strategies? Include some specific techniques from the negotiation readings AND chapter 7.7) Be sure to consider how your intended strategies will affect attitudinal structuring. Also consider the possible impact of intraorganizational bargaining on the success of your negotiation. You can format your bargaining plans in whatever ways you feel is appropriate (e.g., a report, a memo). Remember, you are writing two bargaining plans and attaching them together into one document that you submit. Your “combined” paper should be typed (12-point font, double-spaced, one-inch margins), thoroughly proofread, and approximately 5-7 pages in length. If you use any sources other than the textbook and lectures (which is optional), you should cite them using APA format (and have a separate references page). There is no need to cite textbook and/or lecture material.
