Instructions:

Topic:

This clip introduces the whistled language of La Gomera Island in the Canaries, the Silbo Gomero, replicates the islanders’ habitual language (Castilian Spanish) with whistling. Handed down over centuries from master to pupil, it is the only whistled language in the world that is fully developed and practiced by a large community (more than 22,000 inhabitants).

Think about your own culture or the cultures you are familiar with, how has cultural selection shaped the outcome of these cultures. How will it change it in the future? Use the principles discussed in Chapter 14 to explain how cultures you are familiar with have been shaped.
