In our article “Americans Asked to Pick Nationalism or Globalism,” Jerry Davich calls for 

every American to have a defensible stance on this issue and this is what I am asking 

for this paper: You provide a detailed and well-researched stand on the issue of 

globalism or nationalism.  In addition, we also read Jonathan Haidt’s essay “When and 

Why Nationalism Beats Globalism.” In his work, Haidt attempts to explain the moral 

psychology behind both parties and suggests new strategies.  I want you to keep this 

awareness in mind as an aid to presenting your own argument.

In short, this is an argumentative analysis of globalism vs. nationalism in the past and in 

today’s politics. Use some of your sources to define the issues and terms as they are 

used in today’s conversation. You may also use reliable news sources to frame the 

current issue.   But many of your sources will be editorial or scholarly.  These will be in 

depth arguments and analysis concerning the polarity of these two terms.   And a few 

will be primarily historical.  

You will first present the scope of the issues and move on to what approach you 

determine is the better course and why.  It is highly encouraged that you put together an 

outline of your points and evidence.
